HB 413

Repealing In-State Tuition for DREAMers

Author: Rep Kyle Biedermann

Filed by State Rep. Kyle Biedermann (R-Fredericksburg), HB 413 would deny in-state tuition to Texans who’ve spent nearly their entire lives in-state, who’ve attended Texas public elementary, middle, and high schools, and who are in the process of becoming citizens – simply because they were brought to the Lone Star State from another country when they were young, out of no fault of their own.

This dangerous legislation could affect more than 25,000 Texans, effectively punishing these students for where they were born. Protecting our fellow Texans should transcend petty partisan politics, and in most cases it does: this the DREAM Act was signed into law by Republican Governor Rick Perry, and current Republican Governor Greg Abbott has signalled opposition to this sort of legislation in the past. Let’s do our jobs as lawmakers and protect all Texans.
