Meet Trey

A champion for the hard-working families of District 116, in the heart of San Antonio, State Representative Trey Martinez Fischer is in his sixth term in the Texas House of Representatives. Rep. Martinez Fischer is chairman of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, the oldest and largest Latino caucus in the country.

He is the vice chairman of the House Committee on State Sovereignty and also serves on the Natural Resources Committee, and the Ways and Means Committee.

Each session his peers and numerous professional associations have recognized Rep. Martinez Fischer. A few of the most recent awards presented to him include the “Freedom of Information Award” by the Texas Daily Newspaper Association, “Friend of Medicine Award” by the Texas Medical Association,  “Legislative Leadership Award” by Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce, and “Advocate of the Year” by the New America Alliance.

As a rising leader in the Democratic Party, Rep. Martinez Fischer was named a ”Texas Influencer” by Campaigns & Elections Magazine, in which he was recognized as one of the top 30 most influential Democrats in Texas.  He was also recognized by Capitol Insider as one of the “Best in the Legislature” in 2009.  Under his leadership, the Mexican American Legislative Caucus was labeled “the body to watch” by The Economist, an internationally acclaimed news magazine. Most recently he was one of four legislators honored by the League of United Latin American Citizens at their national legislative awards gala in Washington, D.C. for his devotion to championing issues that impact the Latino community.

Recognized as a leader within the Latino community, Rep. Martinez Fischer is a frequent invitee to the White House—attending a reception honoring Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor, the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, and most recently a Super Bowl watch party with the president, first lady, and members of the president’s Cabinet.

Rep. Martinez Fischer attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and graduated from Oliver Wendell Holmes High School, which inducted him into its Hall of Fame. In 1993, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 1994, Rep. Martinez Fischer was selected to study as a National Urban Fellow, earning a Master’s of Public Administration.  In 1998, he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law. Rep. Martinez Fischer is a practicing attorney in San Antonio and is married to San Antonio attorney Elizabeth Provencio. He and his wife are proud parents of two daughters:  Francesca Maria Provencio Fischer, who is 2, and Camilla Marie Provencio Fischer, who was born in July of 2010.
